Introduction
SCOLA is a body of students by the students and for the students, as it offers free legal aid to bona fide students of the host university for the purpose of fostering the course of justice and maintaining peace and order among the students of Nigerian Universities.
SCOLA is the student arm of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria. Legal Aid Council is a Federal Government agency, under the Ministry of Justice, saddled with the responsibility of rendering free legal services to indigent Nigerians who cannot afford the service of legal practitioners. Legal Aid Council of Nigeria is the mother body of SCOLA Nigeria ... We have had plethora of cases with this agency in other universities.
SCOLA Nigeria started in the University of Ibadan about a decade ago and it has upcoming branches across Nigeria.
Mission
- To champion the course of justice for/among students within the university community by assisting them access justice and educating them on their rights and limitations attached to it, and make then to be conscious of the breach thereof, in affiliation with the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria .
- To create a platform for buddying legal practitioners and human rights activists to discover, develop and showcase their potentials, and
- To nurture future leaders who are in change agents in the society.
Vission
- To make justice accessible to all students of the university community.
- To consolidate the course of Legal Aid in Nigeria.
- To bring awareness that money is not a barrier to the getting of justice.
